Conversation History

PioneerChat automatically saves your conversations so you can return to them later. Here's how to navigate and manage your conversation history.

Viewing Past Conversations

Your conversation history appears in the sidebar on the left side of the screen. Each entry shows:

  • Preview text: The first part of your conversation to help identify it
  • Timestamp: When you last interacted (e.g., "Today 2:30pm", "Yesterday", "Mon", "Dec 15")
  • Context usage: A percentage indicator showing how much of the conversation limit has been used

Continuing a Conversation

To return to a previous conversation:

  1. Find the conversation in the sidebar
  2. Click on it to load the full conversation
  3. Continue chatting where you left off

The AI will have full context of the previous discussion, so you can ask follow-up questions naturally.

Loading More Conversations

Your most recent conversations appear first. If you have many conversations:

  1. Scroll to the bottom of the conversation list
  2. Click Load More to see older conversations
  3. Conversations load in batches of 10

Refreshing the List

If you've been using PioneerChat on multiple devices or the list seems outdated:

  • Click the Refresh button near the conversation list
  • This syncs your history with the server

Understanding Context Usage

Each conversation shows a context usage indicator. This represents how much of the AI's "memory" for that conversation has been used:

Indicator Meaning
Below 50% Plenty of room for more discussion
50-80% Getting fuller, but still usable
80%+ Consider starting a new conversation soon
90%+ Near limit; older context may be summarised

Tip: When starting a new topic, use the "New Chat" button rather than continuing a long conversation. This gives you fresh context and keeps conversations organised.

Data Retention

Conversations are retained according to your organisation's data policy:

  • Conversations are stored securely on your organisation's private infrastructure
  • Your IT administrator sets the retention period (typically 30-90 days)
  • Older conversations may be automatically deleted after this period

For information about how your data is handled, see Security & Privacy.

Session Continuity

When you close and reopen PioneerChat:

  • Your last conversation is automatically loaded
  • You can continue where you left off
  • All previous conversations remain accessible in the sidebar

Organising Your Work

To keep your conversations easy to navigate:

  • One topic per conversation: Start new chats for different subjects
  • Descriptive first messages: The preview shows your first message, so make it clear what the conversation is about
  • Regular cleanup: Conversations you no longer need will eventually be removed automatically
